AI Design Startup Dessn Secures $6M to Let Designers Work Directly Inside Live Codebases

Dessn, a startup that lets product designers iterate on existing codebases using AI without local setup, has raised $6 million in a funding round led by Connect Ventures, with participation from Betaworks and N49P. The company was founded by Gabriella Hachem and Nim Cheema, who built the tool around the thesis that as AI makes code increasingly cheap to produce, design becomes the primary competitive differentiator.

Unlike ground-up ideation tools such as Lovable or Vercel’s v0, Dessn targets teams with existing production codebases who want to iterate quickly. By running those codebases in the cloud and abstracting away dependencies, it removes the need for developer involvement to get started and simplifies designer-to-developer handoffs.

Current customers include teams at Color, voice AI company Wispr, and fintech Mercury. Betaworks partner Jordan Crook described Dessn as the product Figma would have built if it launched today, citing its precise fidelity within production environments as a key differentiator.
