Musk Contradicts His Own Posts Under Oath as OpenAI Trial Turns Against Him

Elon Musk testified in a California federal court in his lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging that co-founders Sam Altman and others converted a nonprofit AI mission into a profit-driven enterprise without his consent. But cross-examination by OpenAI’s lawyer William Savitt proved damaging, with Musk admitting under oath that Tesla is not currently pursuing artificial general intelligence — directly contradicting a recent post on his own platform.

Savitt also established that Musk had himself explored for-profit structures for OpenAI as early as 2016, and that his adviser Shivon Zillis sat on the OpenAI board during key transactions he now challenges.

The trial continues Thursday, with OpenAI president Greg Brockman among those expected to testify.
